Wacky Wednesday: Ouija 7-Eleven

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 by Allison Langley

OuijaBoard What: Ouija 7-Eleven!

Where: 529 N Charles Street

When: Whenever…

So lets a get a little spooky and wacky here (since it is Wednesday) and lets talk about Ouija Boards. Ya, those really creepy boards featured in movies like Paranormal Activity. Well, our dear Baltimore is said to be the place where these famous Ouija Boards came to be! If you have lived in Baltimore for years and didn’t know this or you’re a tourist this should be of great interest to you! The wackiest thing of all is that this place used to be a hotel providing rooms and is now a 7-Eleven serving hot dogs. Don’t believe it? Well this 7-Eleven holds the plaque to prove that the Ouija Board started in that exact spot… Many years ago in the year 1890. So for fans, tourists, or residents this is the place to stop by, get a chocolate bar and a picture with the famous plaque on your Wacky Wednesday!

Wacky Wednesday: The Pink Flamingo

cafehon What: Cafe Hon’s Pink Flamingo

Where:1002 W 36th Street, Baltimore

When: Monday- Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday 11am-10pm, Saturday 9am-10pm, Sunday 9am-8pm

What is wackier than a HUGE pink flamingo on top of a restaurant? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I can come up with anything else!
Café Hon hosts the HUGE pink flamingo! It’s a delicious café and popular spot in the town of Hampden. Café Hon boasts out-there wigs and great food. Denise Whiting opened it in 1992, but our favorite flamingo wasn’t introduced until 2002. Unfortunately, in 2009 our big guy went into “hibernation” for a little but he came back better than ever in fiberglass form! Café Hon has also been featured on a popular Food Network show!
Stop by, get some great food and take a million pictures of this wild flamingo!

Wacky Wednesday: Graffiti Alley

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 by Allison Langley

Graffiti
What: Graffiti Alley

Where: Howard Street and W 19, Baltimore MD

When: Whenever (better in day time)

One of the first places I visited when coming to Baltimore was Graffiti Alley. A quirky professor took my class and me on a day long trip around Baltimore, and luckily, Graffiti Alley was one of the destinations. Located near MICA, this small alley offers some very eclectic and colorful Graffiti. It is all artfully done with precision and thought; it is haven for many artists and photographers. While I was visiting a small group was in the process of a photo-shoot– using the alley as their backdrop. Although it didn’t always maintain the best reputation, it is now an artist’s retreat for bright creativity and street art.

Stop by Graffiti Alley and be sure to take a bunch of pictures for the gram! It is completely free and open to all who simply just want to appreciate some very cool art!
